A Windows 7 theme is a combination of pictures, colours and sounds that personalises the way your computer works. It includes the colour of window borders, and whether they are transparent, the desktop picture, the screen saver, and a set of sounds for common actions (like the warning that is issued when an unexpected program wants to run).
Windows 7 comes with a selection of preset themes, but you can also customise your own by changing:
- the desktop icons that are displayed on the desktop
- the way the mouse pointer looks and behaves
- your account picture
- the desktop background
- the window colour
- sounds
- screen saver
All of these options can be found when you right click on the desktop and select Personalise.

In addition to the pre-built themes that Windows 7 comes with, you can also download new ones and use them on your computer. Find out where you can download new Windows 7 themes.
